The all-new 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid and Hyundai’s first-ever Plug-In Hybrid four-door sedans amp up style, performance, and fuel efficiency with an array of cutting-edge advancements in hybrid technology. Both vehicles affirm Hyundai’s commitment to green technology, as well as demonstrate the automaker’s innovative and forward-thinking engineering.
Building upon the solid success of the 2015 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, the next-gen version of this popular and well-selling four-door, which was unveiled at this year’s Detroit Auto Show, achieves new levels of refined sophistication in design and execution for a driving experience that offers the best of both worlds.
Fluid aerodynamic exterior. Elegantly appointed interior.
With an exceptional, segment-leading drag coefficient of just 0.24, the Sonata Hybrid and its plug-in sibling offer fluid, sculpted, and fresh contemporary styling. Each comes with a special aero kit and unique front fascia, along with distinctive wheels. And both are clad in two exclusive new colors: Graphite Blue Pearl and Seaport Mist. Distinctive taillights, a larger front grille, headlight graphics, and unique front bumper flanked by slender LED running lights set them apart.
The incredibly silent and elegantly crafted interiors of both Sonatas are rich with high quality materials and are ergonomically designed with intuitive controls. Upscale options include Infinity® premium audio, finely stitched leather seating surfaces, a wide panoramic sunroof, power driver and passenger seats, heated rear seats, and rear side-window sunshades. Apple CarPlay™ synchronizes with your iPhone® with a built-in, touchscreen display that allows you to send and receive calls and text messages, and listen to music hands-free.
Technology that motivates the future.
The 2016 Sonata Hybrid excels at delivering on the promise of exceptional fuel economy by combining a newly designed 2.0 liter, four-cylinder, direct injection engine with a 51-hp electric motor powered by advanced lithium polymer batteries for optimal efficiency, with a total system power rated at 193 hp. The gas engine is used to charge the batteries, along with supplemental regenerative braking. EPA fuel economy ratings improve to 39 mpg city/44 mpg highway. The powertrain is mated to an efficient and smooth-shifting six-speed automatic transmission.
This same engine is used in the all-new 2016 Sonata Hybrid Plug-In which features a new, high-capacity lithium polymer battery that can be charged directly from a wall outlet or charging station. The plug-in variant of the Sonata Hybrid is designed to run more on battery power, and is capable of traveling in all-electric mode for up to 22 miles. This gives the Sonata plug-in a combined 93 MPGe (miles per gallon+electric), or 38 mpg city/43 mpg highway in charge-sustaining mode. Its larger 68-hp electric motor bumps the plug-in’s horsepower to 202 for spirited acceleration.
A symphony of safety
Both the 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid and Hybrid Plug-In feature an array of class-leading safety features, including lane-departure warning, smart cruise control with stop/start capability, rear parking assist, forward collision warning, automatic high beam assist, a rearview camera, and blind spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert and lane-change assist.
The new 2016 Sonata Hybrid will be available in the spring of 2015, with the Plug-In Hybrid coming later in the year.
