Whether you are looking for traditional fun for the whole family or a great holiday date night, these holiday activities are sure to please.
November 28, 5-7pm. Free admission.
Kick off the holidays with a beloved Elizabeth tradition: EAP’s Annual Tree Lighting celebration. Bring the whole family down to Union Square Plaza to enjoy festive music, caroling, and yummy treats. Kids won’t want to miss Santa’s arrival in a horse-drawn wagon, so be sure and have them write their letters to see if they’re on the “naughty or nice” list!
Through December 29, 10am-3pm (tours begin every hour). Admission is $12 for adults, $8 for seniors and children (3-17), and children under 3 are free.
This annual Christmas event in Union, NJ, takes visitors on a historical journey where they will experience the holiday during five different wars (the American Revolution, the War of 1812, the Civil War, World War I, and World War II). This tour highlights the decorations and traditions of each different era, and how Christmas was affected by the wars themselves.
December 2, 9, and 16, 12-3pm.
This family-friendly event takes place on three Saturdays in December, bringing holiday cheer and lots of fun to Union Square. Kids can visit with Santa Claus and tell him all their holiday wishes. Each Saturday boasts a different activity: enjoy wagon rides on the 2nd, pony rides on the 9th, and a petting zoo on the 16th.
December 8, 7-9pm. $30 per person. Reservations are required.
Take a step back from all the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. This adults-only event in Union, NJ, combines a traditional holiday activity (decorating gingerbread houses) with beer, wine, and delicious snacks. Relax to your favorite holiday music and wear your ugliest Christmas sweater for a chance to win a prize. Gingerbread houses are already assembled and candy decorations are provided.
December 9, 10-11:30am or 1-2:30pm. $25 fee admits one child and one adult (additional adults are $5 each). Reservations are required.
For a more family-friendly activity, bring the kids to decorate their own incredible gingerbread house at this family-friendly event. Gumdrops, candy canes, and peppermints are just a few of the delightful pieces of candy your little ones can use to make a dazzling creation. All materials are included in the admission fee.
December 10, 8:30am. Early bird online registration: $35, race day registration: $40.
This wonderful Elizabeth holiday event gives participants the chance to have some fun while raising money for an excellent cause. The Jingle Bell 5K Run proudly supports the Chronic Pain Management Program at the Children’s Specialized Hospital. This program helps children manage chronic pain through physical, occupational, and mental therapy. Kicking off with the “Santa Claus Fun Run,” which is a short-distance sprint that’s free for all children, this 5K race also offers runners Jingle Bell 5K gear, a swag bag, and jingle bells for their sneakers. After the run, participants will enjoy a delicious pancake breakfast sponsored by IHOP.
These events provide a perfect opportunity to take a break from the stress that builds up around the holidays. Spend the day with family and friends, enjoying holiday traditions like tree lighting and visits with Santa, and breathe easy knowing the holidays are almost over.
