When it comes to the 2017 Nissan Sentra, the word to remember is “practicality.”  Once again, the Sentra holds a top position among compact cars because of its affordability and reliability.  It also brings some exciting new features to market, including a new performance-oriented SR Turbo with a 1.6-liter engine that makes 188 horsepower, improved sound deadening thanks to thicker glass, a significantly larger center console, a sport-tuned suspension, reworked steering, and upgraded front brakes.

“There are a lot of excellent compact cars available today, all with their own strengths. What you get with the 2017 Nissan Sentra is practicality. It’s roomy, fuel-efficient and a solid value for your money.”

Here are 5 features that make the Sentra one of the best values among 2017 compact cars.

  1.  Spaciousness

This year’s Sentra has among the most spacious interiors of all compact sedans.  It includes a rear seat with head- and legroom equal to many midsize models, and the trunk has cargo capacity (15.1 cu. ft.) as great as some full-size sedans.

  1.  Trim Levels and Features

The five-passenger Sentra S comes with several outstanding features, including automatic headlights, air-conditioning, cruise control, Bluetooth phone connectivity, a four-speaker sound system with CD player, remote keyless entry, a height-adjustable driver seat, tilt and telescoping steering column, and 16-inch steel wheels.  The SV adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel, keyless entry and ignition, a 5-inch driver information screen, rearview camera, a six-speaker sound system (with satellite radio), a 5-inch central touchscreen and upgraded cloth upholstery.

Selecting the SR will get you 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, heated mirrors and heated front seats, and rear disc brakes—the SR Turbo adds a more powerful engine, as well as recalibrated steering and sunroof.  Finally, the top-of-the-line SL adds dual-zone automatic climate control, a 6-way power driver seat, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a 5.8-inch touchscreen with navigation and voice controls.

  1.  Performance

The Sentra S, SV, SR and SL models come with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine with 130 horsepower and 128 pound-feet of torque.  The S has a standard six-speed manual transmission.  A continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) is optional on the S and standard on all other Sentra models.  The SR Turbo has a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that squeezes out an impressive 188 horsepower.

  1.  Fuel Economy

According to EPA fuel economy estimates, the six-speed manual transmission scores 30 mpg combined (27 city/35 highway)—exactly what Nissan has stamped on its Sentra brochure.  Selecting the CVT boosts fuel economy to 32 mpg (29 city/37 highway). The sporty SR Turbo comes in at 29 mpg (26 city/32 highway).

  1.  Safety

The 2017 Sentra makes safety a priority, including stability control, antilock brakes, front-seat side airbags and side curtain bags.  The rearview camera is standard beginning with the SV trim level, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on the SL and available with the SR and SL trim levels, as is adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking.

The Sentra performed well in government crash tests, scoring an overall rating of four stars out of a possible five, with five stars for side impact protection.  And there’s more good news on safety—the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded the 2017 Sentra its best rating for moderate overlap and small overlap front impact, as well as for side impact, roof strength, and seat/head restraint. The Sentra also earned a superior rating for its forward collision mitigation system, ultimately making it an IIHS Top Safety Pick.

Prepare Yourself for the 2017 Nissan Sentra

The 2017 Nissan Sentra once again rises to the top of the heap among compact cars for design, performance, spaciousness, fuel economy and safety.  With exciting new features like a performance-oriented SR Turbo, sound deadening, an enhanced center console and a sport-tuned suspension, the 2017 Sentra gives you solid value for your money.
