What, pray tell, is a “Two-Tank” summer road trip? When you take a road trip in the summer on just two tanks of gas, of course. And with the all-new 2017 Nissan Altima and its enormous 18-gallon fuel tank, you can really go places on just dos fill-ups. Here are some perfect summer vacationing ideas that’ll keep you sightseeing without having to stop at that seedy off-ramp gas station.

The Ultimate Vegas Vacation

Just 575 miles—about 8 hours of driving time—separates you from the bright lights and endless nights of Las Vegas, where jackpots are always earned and rest is for the weak. Take a Friday off work, grab three of your pals, and load up your Altima with snacks, fancy attire, and an extended USB cable for everyone in the back to charge their smartphones. With 101.9 cubic feet of passenger volume, the 2017 Altima won’t restrict stretch-out space on your 8-hour adventure to the Vegas Strip. And don’t forget to snap a photo at the Grand Canyon on your way back home!

Head to a Dallas Cowboys Pre-Season Game

If you’d rather hoot and holler like a cowboy rather than chirp like a cardinal or buck like a bronco, take the 655-mile drive east toward Dallas, and catch football’s pre-season action when the Cowboys take on the Colts on August, 19th. You can even plan on tailgating at AT&T Stadium; just load up a portable grill, cooler, and all the fixings into your Altima’s trunk (15.4 cubic feet should more than do it). Tip: Apply face and body paint after you arrive, or you may be left with quite a mess in your Altima’s beautiful cabin.

Tour the National Forests near Denver

While Albuquerque is surrounded by Carson National Forest, Colorado is on another level when it comes to serenity. Take the long route to Denver by visiting the Rio Grande National Forest bright and early in the morning. Hike and birdwatch your way through the miles-wide forested preserve, then head into South Ford for a bite to eat—don’t worry, your Nissan Altima’s nav system and its turn-by-turn directions will help you get there.

Then take another 100-mile trip north into Gunnison National Park and its 1.6 million acres of land. If you plan ahead and pack a tent and camping supplies, you can spend the night underneath a Colorado sky specked with the brightest stars you’ve ever seen. That’s just one perk of sleeping a mile high.

From there, finish your trip up to the Arapaho National Forest to bathe in its Hot Sulphur Springs, or explore all that Denver has to offer. A weekend of adventure in just two tanks of gas sounds like a solid plan to us.
