New 2020 Chevy Blazer: A Camaro in Crossover Clothing

Guess what just arrived at our Overland Park Chevy dealership way ahead of schedule? The new 2020 Chevrolet Blazer, originally positioned as a late-October crossover release, can now be found glistening atop our showroom floor. Ah, the splendor!

2020 Chevy Blazer

As an all-new SUV last year, the Chevy Blazer turned heads with its sporty, bold look and excellent off-roading capabilities—which has always been Blazer’s signature. Now Chevy’s latest crossover returns with its 2020 model, a sophisticated yet rugged Camaro-like crossover with a revamped lineup of engines.

The newest addition under the hood: A turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four that produces a whopping 230 horsepower and 258 pound-foot of torque. This powertrain, available in select trims, sits between the base 193-horsepower four-banger and the powerful 3.6L V6 that plows onward with its 308 ponies. That’s a lot of power for the segment.

Hefty horsepower isn’t the only link connecting the Blazer and Camaro, however. Like the Camaro, Chevy’s reincarnated Blazer rides on a highly refined suspension system, albeit one built for a different purpose. While Camaro’s suspension is made for asphalt, Blazer’s modified underpinnings are catered to the Great Outdoors™ (aka. anywhere the road isn’t a road). MacPherson struts, a multi-link rear suspension, and an advanced AWD system help the Blazer maintain a firm, controlled cabin, even though the yuck and muck of bump-littered rural Shawnee. Handling is agile, and its throttle is finely tuned, providing drivers control no matter the surface. Range-topping Blazer RS models provide better steering ratios and an even sportier suspension.

No SUV in Chevy’s lineup looks quite like the 2020 Blazer; it’s the wild child of Chevrolet’s growing crossover brood, the black sheep. However, if you put the Camaro on a linebacker’s diet and squinted, you’d have a Blazer. Its profile is like an SUV written in italics—forward-hunched and with sultry curves taking the place of boxier edges. Slim running LED lights give it a rather menacing appearance, which is only aided by its steep sculpted hood. Heated side mirrors are standard.

Blazer Interior

Inside the Blazer, Camaro’s genetics are quite strong—the layouts are virtually identical. Silver trim and big, round vents extend throughout the dash, with Maple Sugar leather seats and black-on-black accents accentuating the cabin’s elegance. The top of its central stack is fitted with an 8-inch touchscreen and a series of buttons and knobs. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility are standard, as is a leather-wrapped steering wheel with shift knobs. Storage solutions are cleverly placed around the cabin, from the passenger-side map pocket to the build-in door cubbies.

Of course, not everything about the 2020 Blazer screams “Camaro.” It has seating for five passengers and 64.2 cubic feet of max cargo space. A Chevy-first Cargo Management System, complete with rails and a cargo fence, is a great addition to the RS and Premier models. It’s fitted with up to 6 USB ports and has a hands-free power liftgate. Teen Driver and Rear Seat Reminder are all standard, which means the Blazer is an ideal family SUV.
