5 Kansas City Summer Events to Beat the Heat

The sun is shining, school is out, and the Royals are in full swing. That must mean it is summer in Kansas City! Between taking family vacations, road trips, and recovering from sunburns, your summer might be packed as it is, but if you find yourself with a free weekend, check out one of these fun KC events before September ends.

Westport Beer Fest

  1. Westport Beer Festival

This festival takes place on June 24th from 5 to 9 pm, when all of Kansas City’s Pennsylvania Ave becomes “Hops Central.” Over 3 dozen breweries will be offering samples of their locally crafted beers. Balance out the brews with some food from local restaurants and street vendors, all while listening to live music from hometown bands. This festival is a true-blue Kansas City tradition! Tickets are $35 in advance or $40 on the day of the festival, with proceeds benefiting AIDS Walk KC. (Make sure you’ve got a DD on hand!)

  1. Shawnee Auto Center 9th Annual Car Show

For the car lovers of the Midwest, the Shawnee Auto Center invites you to their annual car show June 25th from 11 am to 4 pm. Bring the whole family out to marvel at the beauty and power of the classic cars on display, while enjoying food and live music on the side. Past events have featured over 90 hot rods and street rods, as well as giveaways and raffles! Even if you don’t win the raffle drawing, your afternoon won’t be a waste—with so many beautiful cars on hand, how could it? You may even spot one or two of our Chevy dealers there!

July Jubilee KC

  1. July Jubilee

Everyone loves pancakes, right? At the July Jubilee on July 29th, from 7 am to 1 pm, celebrate the 27th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act by chowing down on all-you-can-eat flapjacks. The meal is just $7/adult and $5/child. There will also be a flea market and appearances by KC Wolf and Slugger! This fun-packed weekend is not only perfect for the whole family, but it also benefits a great cause: One Whole Person KC.

  1. Sprint Family Fun Days: Pirate Party

For a free day of fun, bring the kids down to the Power and Light District July 8th from 11 am to 3 pm. The Pirate Party is sure to be a swashbucklin’ good time for kids aged 1 to 101. Search for booty around the power and light district during the treasure hunt, beat the drums of war on the War Safari, and prove your bravery on the Super Splash Slide. Admission aboard is free of charge!

  1. Bacon Fest

What could be better than an entire event focused on eating bacon? Bring your forks and empty stomachs down to the BaconFest on Main Street August 25th from 2 to 5 pm. Live music and local beer aid your digestive process as you work your way from one bacon-themed recipe to the next. All proceeds from this event benefit the Children’s Therapeutic Learning Center and Rehab Institute of Kansas City, so you’re eating bacon and fighting the good fight all at once.
