Introducing the New & Improved 2017 Chevy Cruze

Ah, the compact sedan. Once cornerstones in the market, these tiny powerhouses have slowly been overthrown by spacious SUVs and crossovers. But with the 2017 Chevy Cruze, the market is proving to be on the upswing. Only a year removed from a complete redesign, the new Chevrolet Cruze is more than your everyday work-store-home sedan. It offers a little bit of this, a little bit of that, making a case for redefining the term “compact.”

And it’s available right now, in all its glory, at McCarthy/Morse Chevrolet, your hometown Chevy dealership near Kansas City. See why the 2017 Chevy Cruze is opening eyes by reading a brief overview of the car below and stopping into our Overland Park showroom for a test drive.

What’s New with the 2017 Cruze

What a difference a year makes! The 2017 Cruze adds a few new features and changes, including standard Teen Driver safety, charge-only USB ports in LT and Premier models, and a hatchback body style. The 2017 Cruze Hatchback comes with expanded cargo space and a number of unique stylings, such as a new Cajun Red color and interior trims. Otherwise, the 2017 Chevy Cruze carries over much of the same exquisiteness from its last model year.

Available Trims & Features

The 2017 Cruze is available in the base L, LS, LT, and Premier trim levels (the hatchback is available in LT and Premier).

In the Cruze L and across all trims you’ll find a 7-inch touchscreen radio, rearview camera, WiFi hot spot, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, 60/40-split rear seats, OnStar, MyLink infotainment system, automatic headlamps, and more. Advanced safety systems like rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and collision warning are also available.

The Cruze LS adds a driver armrest, carpeted mats, and some other dealership options (just ask your McCarthy/Morse dealer for information).

In the Cruze LT with the Convenience Package, you’ll receive LED lights, keyless entry/ignition, remote start, heated seats, rear cup holders, satellite radio, and an eight-way power driver’s seat. An RS Appearance package also equips the LT model with fog lights, a sporty spoiler, and an athletic body kit. The 2017 Cruze LT Hatchback also comes with a rear spoiler and cargo concealment.

Chrome accents, ambient cabin lighting, leather seating, heated steering wheel, and 17-inch wheels come in the Premier trim. An optional Sun and Sound Package adds to the mix a larger 8-inch touchscreen, sunroof, colorful instrumentation cluster, and a premium Bose audio system. A Premier-only Enhanced Convenience Package includes auto climate control, heated rear seats, wireless charging pads, 110-volt outlets, and auto-dimming rear mirror.

All the Style & Power, None of the Cramped Space

Inside and out, the 2017 Chevy Cruze feels like the big brother to other compact cars.

The attractive two-tone cabin features a superiorly composed dash and a plethora of high-quality trimmings. Controls are built into the steering wheel as well as the center stack, offering a great many options to appease just about any fidgety driver. The touchscreen grants access to smartphone apps like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as Chevy’s sensible yet refined MyLink infotainment system—a favorite amongst drivers. Upgraded leather upholstery feels upscale, and the car’s wide stance equates to significant amounts of legroom in both the front and rear.

The 2017 Cruze sedan has 14.8 cubic feet of trunk space—the hatchback comes in at a whopping 18.5 cubic feet with the seats in their upright positions, and a holy-moly 47 cubic feet when those seats are tucked away—which is above-average compared to other compact cars in the segment. A 1.4-liter inline-4 engine (rated at 153 hp) paired with an automatic transmission help the Cruze remain as efficient as ever before. Its EPA-estimated rating of 34 combined mpg is about as good as it gets for small sedans void of an electric engine. Hatchback versions of the 2017 Cruze come with comparable fuel-efficiency numbers.
