New Trim Levels Available

In stride with Chevy’s brand-wide strategy, the Traverse has switched up its trim levels—at least by nomenclature—to include three primary models: Premier, LT, and LS, with the LT and LS trims separated by “sub-trims.”

The base-level LS comes categorized by sub-trims 1SM and 1LS. The 1SM is the Traverse’s entry model, and comes standard with the following: 17-inch steel wheels, roof railings, a bold rear spoiler, AC, the essential 60/40 folding second- and third-row seating, Bluetooth phone connectivity, rearview camera, 6.5-inch touch display, USB audio and additional charging ports, and a 3-month subscription to OnStar with 4G LTE and WiFi connection.

The Traverse 1LS adds satellite radio and is available in both front-wheel and all-wheel drive, unlike the 1SM, which only comes in FWD.

Moving on up the line is the middle-level Traverse LT model (classified by 1LT and 2LT trims). The 1LT comes stocked with everything from the LS lineup, as well as the following additions or upgrades: 18-inch alloy wheels, heated side-view mirrors, front fog lights, rear parking sensors, remote stop-start, 2-way power lumbar and 8-way power driver’s seat, and a leather steering wheel.

A step above the 1LT is the 2LT. In addition to its shared features, the 2LT also had an auto-dimming rearview mirror, liftgate access into the rear cargo hold, automatic AC and tri-zone climate control, heated seats, rear audio controls, and headphone jacks. The Traverse 2LT also has the MyLink infotainment interface, Bluetooth connectivity with voice control and Internet radio integration, and available navigation. Drivers can additionally opt for the bold new Graphite Edition package, which boosts the SUV’s prestigious status up a notch thanks to aggressive exterior features such as 20-inch charcoal wheels, a dual-pipe exhaust, and a color palette of Mosaic Black Metallic, Siren Red Tintcoat, Tungsten Metallic, or Iridescent Pearl Tricoat from which to choose.

At the top of the pyramid sits the Traverse Premier, which is the artist formerly known as LTZ. Standard on the Premier models are 20-inch aluminum wheels, heated steering wheels, driver memory settings, premium leather upholstery, 8-way power front seats, power-folding side mirrors, fanny-cooling front seats with ventilation, and a slew of safety features like blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic cautioning, forward collision warning, and lane-departure alert systems. Options also include panoramic sunroofs, HD surround-sound audio systems with 10 speakers, rear entertainment systems with electrical outlets, and more.

Top-Notch Engine & Performance

Across the LS and LT trims is Chevy’s 3.6L V-6 engine that pushes out 281 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. The Chevrolet Traverse Premier, never one to be outdone, is fitted with a 288-hp engine that cranks 270 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and can tow an impressively above-average 5200 pounds, making the Traverse as capable an SUV can be in that department.

The Chevy Traverse is also well-trained in road manners. Its poise on asphalt is unrivaled by others in its class, exceeding expectations in ride quality, cabin noise, handling, and body roll. Large yet lean, the Traverse tackles everything from straightaways to roundabouts with ease, keeping its competitors in its rearview. With five-star overall ratings from the NHTSA, it’s also one of the safest midsize SUVs on the market.

Interior Comforts: The Traverse’s Appeal

When it comes to spaciousness, the 2017 Chevy Traverse is certainly one of the roomiest in its segment and perhaps has no equal. With room for up to eight passengers, this SUV packs a wallop in both passenger volume and cargo space. At 150.8 cubic feet, maximum passenger volume is superb, and when the seats are folded down, a generous 116.3 cubic feet of cargo space is available. Even with the Traverse’s seats in their upright positions, the 24.4 cubic feet of storage space is virtually unheard of in its segment. It also helps that Chevy engineers implemented an ingenious second-row Smart Slide® seat to grant easier access to the rear.

The cabin also adds to the appeal of the Traverse, getting high marks in both material use and design. In the top-of-the-line Premier, plush seating and a high-end dash showcase Chevrolet’s emphasis on offering luxury that’s affordable. And the lower LS and LT trims are no slouch, either, thanks to standard features that straddle the line between convenience and opulence. The center stack comes with a 6.5-inch touchscreen that hosts the easy-to-use MyLink infotainment system. Even tech-illiterate drivers will find MyLink to be intuitively designed and simple to understand.
