Tiny Homes on Wheels: Design Ideas to Reduce Towing Weight

America’s “tiny house” community is ironically growing larger by the day, as thousands of millennials and retirees alike seek to reduce their carbon footprint, cut down on expenses, and live off the grid. Tiny homes on wheels (or THOW) have even hit the silver screen, with numerous reality shows being aired on HGTV, DIY Network, Hulu, and other stations.

The Chevy Silverado Can Haul Anything

Still, you can’t just build a tiny home willy-nilly! Transplanting one’s life into a 350-square-foot house with wheels takes a lot of planning and preparation. Among the many design factors to consider, weight should be at the top of the list. Oftentimes weighing over 12,000 pounds, fully loaded tiny homes are built with (mostly) standard housing materials, which means they’re more burdensome to tow than typical campers or RVs.

As you begin constructing your new THOW, review these design ideas that will help you reduce towing weight. Every pound counts!

How to Protect Your Car From Road Salt Damage

Road salt is one of those necessary evils in life — it’s needed to keep roads drivable in ice and snow, but extremely damaging to your vehicle. Every year, the Missouri Department of Transportation drops as much as 129,000 tons of salt on state roads, including those in the Kansas City, Independence, and Lee’s Summit areas. The salt works to lower the freezing point of water, thawing frozen asphalt and preventing more ice from forming.

Over time, the salt and any additional chemicals used by road crews to melt ice can be corrosive to your car’s exterior, including its paint. What’s worse, the salt can work its way into small crevices in your vehicle’s underbody and corrode any metal surfaces. Leave it to do its damage, and you could face high repair bills as metal parts on your car or truck fail.

But you can prevent road salt from taking a toll on your vehicle with a few simple steps.

The Best Winter Trucks for Kansas City Drivers

When winter snow and ice arrive in the greater Kansas City area, you want the peace of mind that comes from having a reliable winter truck. From Lee’s Summit to Independence, MO, the area is in a snowy warzone where Arctic cold and warm Gulf air do battle throughout the winter. The fact that Kansas City averages 20 inches of snow each year is only part of the story, too. Even on cold, sunny days, motorists often have drifting snow, black ice, and general slippery conditions to contend with. That’s why driving a winter-ready pickup truck is so very important.

Year after year, Chevrolet delivers some of the best trucks for winter driving. For example, in 2018, Chevy placed two pickups on Autobytel’s “10 Best Trucks for Snow and Ice” list: the Silverado and Colorado. Before winter makes the roads chaotic, consider buying or leasing either of these amazing pickups at our Lee’s Summit Chevy truck dealership.

Lee’s Summit Roadwork Emphasizes the Importance of Driver-Assist Technology

As some of you may know, the powers that be decided to put Woods Chapel Road on a “road diet.” Left-turn lanes are being created. Traffic signals will be installed. Bike, eastbound, and westbound lanes should extend through to Lakewood Loop. In turning Woods Chapel into a three-lane street, the city hopes to “improve safety for all road users.”

In the meantime, however, the ongoing construction has frequently been maddening, forcing drivers to seek alternative routes lest they want cartoonish smoke billowing from their ears. If only they had modern driver-assist features to combat the construction-related road rage. Here’s how Chevy’s Safety features help in that department.
