Where to See Christmas Lights in Kansas City

Break out the thermos and hot cocoa! It’s time to get into the Christmas spirit by taking a little journey through some of the best Christmas light shows in the Kansas City area. From Olathe to Overland Park, the region is aglow with holiday decorations, and you’re about to get a front-row seat to see each and every lit bulb. Paulie’s Penguin Playground – Olathe, KS

Featuring nearly 150 lighted holiday figures and thousands of Christmas lights, this Olathe yard is home to the largest holiday display in Johnson County. Walk through the “playground” with the kids, snap a photo with a preposterously tall blow-up penguin, and leave a donation to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Keep track of closings and swipe through pictures on the homeowner’s official Facebook page.

Candy Cane Lane – Prairie Village, KS

For 60 years, Prairie Village has played host to one of the best Christmas light displays near Kansas City. Every home on Candy Cane Lane is decked out with holiday decorations and thousands of Christmas lights, but the centerpiece is found right in the center of the block’s cul-de-sac: A 50-foot-tall Christmas tree! Lee’s Summit Magic Tree – Lee’s Summit, MO

Located at I-470 and View High Drive, the Magic Tree is finally lit! You’ll be able to view and take photographs around the decorated Christmas tree until January 5. While you’re there, consider donating a toy through Operation Toy Soldier, which provides Christmas gifts to children of deployed U.S. Military personnel. Learn more by visiting lsmagictree.com.

Christmas in the Park – Lee’s Summit, MO

If you haven’t yet visited Christmas in the Park in Lee’s Summit, do so before it ends on December 31! The beloved Jackson County Christmas attraction is 100% free and features over 300,000 lights, 175 animated holiday displays, and festive music to accompany it all. Holiday Lights on Farmstead Lane – Overland Park, KS

Through January 7, Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead will have their lights on full display. Featuring a riveting 38-minute holiday lighting masterpiece that’s synced to music from 90.5 Rose FM, this Christmas light show in Overland Park runs daily from 5 to 11 PM. Bring a blanket and relax. KCP&L Plaza Lights – Kansas City, MO

Even after 89 years, this Kansas City Christmas light display is still going strong. The entire Country Club Plaza is aglow with warm holiday lights, and it’ll remain that way till January 13, 2019. WinterFest – Kansas City, MO

The holiday spirit is unavoidable at Worlds of Fun. On select evenings through December 31, WinterFest kicks the Christmas season into high gear with tons of festive attractions, rides, and shows. Be sure to visit when Cool Yule Christmas is performing your favorite holiday songs from underneath the gigantic 70-foot-tall tree! Vince & Associates Holiday Lights Display – Overland Park, KS

The best therapy on the holidays is an energetic Christmas lights show. Each season, this local business ramps up the energy by decorating their storefront with over 200,000 lights that are synchronized to music from 95.5 FM. Watch a video and get driving directions on their website.

Festival of Lights – Kingsville, MO

There’s a whole lot more to see than flowers at the Kansas City Botanical Garden this Christmas. Walk through the botanically themed lighting displays at Powell Gardens at night, and be sure to bring the kids to the Ornament Station before you leave to create a personalized ornament. Sar-Ko Aglow – Lenexa, KS

The Sar-Ko-Par Park will display their Christmas lights until January 13. Walk the trails around Rose’s Pond and Legler Barn, and you’ll be treated to an incredible view of these Lenexa holiday lights. Get more information at lenexa.com.
