Kansas City doesn’t stop just because the holidays are over! If you are among the many people who feel a little blue after the New Year, remember that there are still a lot of reasons to get out and have fun in KC during the winter. In fact, the best way to beat the post-holiday melancholy is to plan more entertaining outings in the weeks and months ahead.
Here are some great winter events in Kansas City to brighten up the early part of 2018.
Show your love for the Royals
The Royals are hosting their annual FanFest from January 26-27 at the Kansas City Convention Center. The event will honor current and former Royals players and will include autograph sessions, main stage programming, and games and activities for the whole family. Get excited about the pre-season in February and show your love for KC at this great event. A portion of the proceeds benefits the Royals Charities. Get your tickets now.
Go ice skating
The 44th season of ice skating at Crown Center Square doesn’t conclude on New Year’s Day. In fact, the rink is open daily through early March, and the rink is a great place to have fun and be active with the whole family. You can even plan to or cap off a memorable Valentine’s Day date with a loved one. Tuesday evenings are two-for-one, and group rates are available during the week. More information can be found here.
Check out the hottest custom cars
The 58th Annual World of Wheels rolls into the Kansas City Convention Center on Feb 9-11 for a weekend automotive extravaganza. See the most amazing hot rods, customs, trucks, and motorcycles in the country, along with shows, demonstrations, and celebrity guests. Most of us at your local Olathe Chevy dealership can’t wait to see what we’ll be learning and discovering at this incredible auto show. More information and ticketing options can be found here.
If you get inspired to buy a collector car, remember that the Mecum Auction follows in the Kansas City Convention Center from March 16-17. This auction will have more than 700 collector vehicles available. And you can always find great Chevy deals in Olathe on high-performance models like the Corvette or Camaro at McCarthy Chevrolet!
Get excited for spring
Winter is a perfect time to get ahead of the gardening season and look toward home improvement projects for the coming year. At the KC Remodel and Garden Show (Feb 9-11), which will be held at the American Royal Center, you can do just that.
Local DIY Diva Leann Lee will be leading hands-on workshops so you can learn about upcycling and home improvement trends and leave the show with your own unique work of art and strategy for the spring. Get inspired by gardeners, sample projects, and tiny home ideas for your own space! Tickets are available now.
Become one with your inner child
The National Museum of Toys and Miniatures is one of Kansas City’s most famous attractions, and if you haven’t visited for a while, this winter is a great time to check it out.
Their current exhibition features the work of Kansas City toy designer Donna Moore, whose designs were in every child’s toy box during the 1980s and 1990s. Adults will love this trip down memory lane, and kids will be fascinated by the abundance of toys on display. On March 11, Donna Moore herself will be at the museum to speak about her inspiration, process, and stories behind some of her most famous toys. Don’t miss this chance to explore the intersection between your childhood memories and local history!
