Kansas City may drive McCarthy, but the huge variety of local events is what makes Kansas City one of the best cities in America. This fall, in between power washing your deck and hand washing your Chevy, why not venture out and explore all the fun KC has to offer? Check out these incredible fall events before Winter 2017 blows into town.
Disney on Ice Presents: Dream Big
Kansas City will transform into a magical wonderland this September when the Sprint Center welcomes Disney princesses hailing from the deepest seas to the tallest towers. In all, eight leading ladies will don skates and start their on-ice journey, which will surely be packed with twists, turns, and enough sing-along music to keep the kids entertained.
Several performances are on tap between September 14th and 17th, so buy your tickets at the Sprint Center’s site.
New to the Kansas City fall lineup this year is Park Palooza, a soon-to-be Shawnee classic. Free for all visitors, Park Palooza includes interactive activities and shows, affordable food, and a live performance from Beatles tribute band Liverpool. Kids can fly kites over the park grounds while this musical Magical Mystery Tour delights the ears of parents.
Park Palooza will run from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm on September 17th at the Theater in the Park in Shawnee, KS. Visit jcprd.com for more details.
10th Anniversary KCI Car Show
You can bet some enthusiasts from our Olathe car dealership will be at this KCI car cruise-in! Hundreds of vehicles will be on display, from muscle cars to hot rods and custom-built trikes to imports. After 2016’s Kansas City car show turned up over 900 vehicles, here’s hoping that 2017 can top it. To accommodate the masses, this year’s KC auto show will also feature a bounce house, dog adoption center, raffles, food vendors, and much more!
Free to the public, this local car show will be held at the Kansas City International Airport on September 23rd from 3:00 pm to dusk. Visit flykci.com for more event info.
9th Annual Tour de BBQ
Cycle your way through the 12-, 35- or 62-mile courses at this year’s Tour de BBQ race, and say “no” to cancer. All proceeds from this race go toward local Kansas City charities, including Children’s Mercy Hospital and the University of Kansas Cancer Center. Once you’re across the finish line, replenish those lost calories by inhaling some fresh BBQ. Obviously.
Register for this September 30th bike ride by heading to kc.tourdebbq.com.
Graveyard 5k Run & Walk
Cross the KS-MO border for this spooky Kansas City 5k. Held at the Elmwood Cemetery, this race will have you travel past many influential and prominent local figures, including Americus McKim, the owner of Kansas City’s first pro baseball team, and Simeon Brooks Armour, the founder of Armour Meat Packing Co. Race fees will go toward maintaining and updating the cemetery, which is also one of the oldest in all of KC.
This 5k will begin at 9:00 am on October 7th in Kansas City, MO. Register on the KC Crew’s Facebook events page.
Kansas City Renaissance Festival
Each year, 200,000 visitors take to the medieval streets in Bonner Springs, KS when the annual Renaissance Festival kicks off. For 2017, this Kansas City tradition will be open each weekend through October 15th. Along with the traditional fun and 16th-century “cuisine,” this year’s festival also welcomes new additions, such as a 20-minute escape room, authentic costume rentals, Wizard’s Flight School, and over 50 free family activities.
This festival will conclude on October 15th. Buy tickets online at www.kcrenfest.com.

In the day, drivers will qualify for positioning. At night, the full-throttled action begins! For just $10, you can grab a seat at Kansas Speedway and catch the ARCA Series race. For $15, the full day of qualifying and practice is yours. Add on another $15 payment, and you can upgrade to a grandstand seat, visit the infield, get racer autographs, and watch the NASCAR inspections in person.
Kansas City Zoo Great Pumpkin Smash
Halloween may be over, but the treats are still overflowing at the KC Zoo! Bring the kids for a post-Hallows’ Eve celebration where many a pumpkin will be kicked, crushed, tossed, and demolished. Plus, you can head along your typical route to see all the animals before or after you smash that gourd to bits.
This event is held on November 4th and 5th and is included with zoo admission. You can discover more special events at the Kansas City Zoo on their website.

After 30 million albums sold, Lady Gaga is surely ready to hang up her hat, right? Not so fast! The new queen of pop will head to Sprint Center this fall, and you’re all invited to watch her trailblazing performance in person.
