The Detroit Auto Show has come and gone, but it certainly left a lasting impression on our Kansas City car dealership. While most news revolved around the NACOY award-winning Chevy Bolt, we couldn’t help but drool over its future sibling: The 2018 Traverse. This upcoming SUV isn’t shying away from its historical propensity for being a family-first vehicle. Instead, the 2018 Traverse is set to don some new threads to accentuate that image—and, boy, is it all the more handsome for it.
Here’s what to expect from the Traverse when it lands at our Chevrolet dealership near Kansas City sometime this summer.
Two New Traverse Trims
It’s been said that variety is the spice of life, and Chevrolet must have taken that expression to heart when constructing the Traverse. Available in six trims—the base LS, LT, Premier, and High Country models carry over from last year, while the RS and Redline trims are new for 2018—the unreleased Traverse will add some flavor to any spice rack. We’re particularly excited to get our hands on the Traverse Redline, which is set to become the SUV’s flagship model.
A Lively & Refined SUV
The Traverse went through a transformation since 2017, ditching some unneeded pounds and replacing its bulkier frame. Now, with the 2018 Traverse, it’s an SUV that won’t shy away from the camera.
Under its hood is a rambunctious 3.6L V6 that gushes with power-heavy vigor—305 horsepower will do that to an engine—especially when paired with the all-new 9-speed transmission, which replaces the standard 6-speed found in earlier models. A newer 2.0L 4-cylinder engine will also be available in the Traverse RS trim. Producing “just” 255 horsepower, this turbo-4 should up the SUV’s fuel-economy game substantially.
Inside the Chevy Traverse will be a throng of new features, fittings, and updates. On the safety front, a central front airbag will be positioned to safeguard both driver and passenger from each other, and most models will come with Teen Driver and Rear Seat Reminder technology, among others.
For driver and passenger convenience, the 2018 Traverse will come with an array of USB ports, 4g Wi-Fi, and several types of driver-assistance tech. An improved Traction Mode knob will give drivers the ability to select from up to four options—normal, 4×4/snow, off-road, and tow/hail—depending on road conditions.
Passengers will certainly love that the Traverse offers more second- and third-row room, too, while drivers can appreciate its incredible cargo capacity when the seats are folded down.
