Finally returning refreshed and redesigned in 2017 is Chevy’s all-new Corvette Grand Sport, a world-class speedster that puts others of its ilk to shame. Affixed with the iconic Corvette emblem and a series of modern and high-class features, the Grand Sport is available today at McCarthy Chevy in Olathe, and it can’t wait to be a trophy car in your garage. Here’s what you can expect when you take the astounding 2017 Corvette for a test drive at our Chevy dealership near Kansas City.
A Powerful Engine
The Corvette Grand Sport is designed to outperform expectations. With more than a peppering of pep, this Corvette features a confident 6.3L V8 LT1 engine that pushes out a maximum 460 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque. In just under 3.7 seconds, the Grand Sport can go from a standstill to 60 mph, and you can feel the forged-aluminum pistons pumping as the RPMs rise.
With the new Grand Sport, the streets are your playground. An optimal weight balance keeps the ’17 Corvette Grand Sport in tune with the road. An innovative dry-sump system distributes oil efficiently so that the car can take the sharpest of turns with ease. The standard 7-speed manual with Active Rev Matching simulates heel-to-toe shifting, allowing you to embrace every up- and down-shift. Equipped in the front are 19-inch tires that are built for precision steering, while the back is fitted with 20-inch super-wide tires that offer extreme gripping for enhanced power.
Signature Corvette DNA—that’s what you get with the 2017 Grand Sport. Engineered to maximize airflow, the sleek Grand Sport has an aggressive stance, a compact hoodline, sporty rear spoiler, and carbon fiber rocker panels. The front fender is wide enough to accommodate the new wheels, and a mesh grille improves high-speed aerodynamics. The limited Collector Edition of the Corvette Grand Sport comes in a new Watkins Glen Gray color with specialty gender hash marks in Tension Blue. Also available is the Grand Sport Convertible, which comes with a button-activated electronic top.
The Grand Sport is grand inside and out. Drivers and passengers will feel the refinement from the moment they open the door. The cockpit is crafted with a mixture of authentic Napa leather, microfiber suede, and heavy-duty plastics. GT seats are the epitome of extravagance, while available Competition Sport seats inspire drivers to embrace each and every corner. The flat-bottom steering wheel frees up lap room and enhances every aspect of the driving experience. The passenger seat is fitted with a side grab bar near the center stack, just in case.
The Heads-up Display is as modern a feature as we’ve seen, as it projects driving data into the driver’s line of sight. Also equipped with the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport is an 8-inch touchscreen with the latest version of Chevy MyLink, reconfigurable LCD cluster, premium Bose® sound system, USB ports, Bluetooth®, 4G LTE Wi-Fi, and a Performance Data Recorder that’s exclusive to Chevy.
Strong Safety is Standard
The greatness of the Grand Sport is evident in its power and style, but what lies latent in its design are incredible safety features and systems. To prevent accidents, the Corvette utilizes features like Active Handling, antilock braking, rearview and front curb-view cameras, traction control, and run-flat tires. Should a collision occur, the Grand Sport’s aluminum frame and integrated head and neck airbags will keep you secure, and the vehicle’s built-in OnStar® Automatic Crash Response system will alert and dispatch emergency help to your GPS location.
The Corvette: Available in Three Models
In addition to the Grand Sport, Chevrolet has also released the Corvette in Z06 and Stingray models.
Standing out from the crowd, the sporty Z06 is equipped with a game-changing 6.2L supercharged V8. This LT4 engine delivers a maximum of 650 horsepower and 650 pound-foot of torque, giving the Corvette Z06 quite a punch. Displacing 1.7 liters, the LT4 supercharger—which is also lighter than its predecessor—enlists the aid of four-lobe rotors that optimize performance, allowing this Corvette to put its racing genes on display with a 3.6-second time in 0-to-60 test. An integrated manifold dampens unwanted noise while also accentuating the natural roars of the engine, and the customizable suspension system reads the road over 1000 times per second to create an always-smooth ride.
The Stingray Corvette was created with the sole purpose of satisfying its driver. Mated with the same LT1 V8 as the Grand Sport, the Stingray exemplifies high-performance, but this Corvette’s refinement shines brightest in its handling. The Stingray is equipped with an aluminum frame that’s 100 pounds lighter than last model’s, allowing the car to take to the road with supreme precision. Five customizable driving modes are available with the turn of a knob so that drivers can choose their level of aggressiveness depending on road conditions, traffic, and their need for speed. And with an estimated 29 mpg on the highway, the new Stingray Corvette is one of the most efficient in its class.
