Groundbreaking QX50 Concept Unveiled At Detroit Auto Show

Attendees at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit were abuzz about the dramatic launch of INFINITI’s stunning and technologically groundbreaking QX50 Crossover Concept.

New VC-Turbo A Technological Marvel.

The gorgeous QX50 marks a significant engineering accomplishment for INFINITI, as the automaker debuted its radical new 2.0-liter VC-Turbo engine that will power the QX50 and other vehicles. The world’s first production-ready variable compression ratio engine was designed as an alternative to existing hybrid and diesel engines.

The 268-hp, in-line, four-cylinder VC-Turbo Variable Compression powerplant achieves superior efficiency by adapting its compression ratio to adjust for different driving conditions. It, therefore, delivers an optimal balance of performance and fuel economy while providing a high level of efficiency and torque. Additionally, the VC-Turbo is projected to be 27% more efficient than comparable V6 engines.

According to Roland Krueger, president of INFINITI Motor Company, “The pioneering VC-Turbo powertrain represents a leap forward for engine development. Vehicle engineers believe the breakthrough in internal combustion technology would come from mastering the variable compression ratio. This new technology will be available in new INFINITI models from 2018.”

Driving The Future Of Automotive Technology.

The QX50 Concept also incorporates the automaker’s most advanced driverless technology to date. According to INFINITI, “The QX50 contains the platform on which all future INFINITI autonomous drive technologies will be based. Using input from high-tech lasers, scanners, radars, and camera, the QX50 Concept is designed to empower drivers by helping improve on-road safety.”

Striking Design Is One Of INFINITI’s Most Beautiful.

Not only is the remarkable QX50 a technological marvel, but it’s also one of INFINITI’s most stunning and striking designs. INFINITI states that the hood aims to resemble a “snake’s head” with bold creases emanating from the base of the A-pillar, which has been pushed forward to improve interior space. The hood is also shorter, thus accommodating a more compact engine layout. Razor-thin LED headlights are mimicked by a similar taillight treatment. INFINITI’s signature crescent-shaped C-pillar offers improved driver and passenger visibility. A beautiful new Forged Bronze paint features three times more metal flake for a deep shimmering appearance.

Plush Interior Is Stunningly Spacious.

Equally stunning is the QX50’s plush, luxurious, and spacious interior. With seating for 5, the functional and sophisticated design, executed in attractive light brown and white, features quilted leather seats, a three-spoke sport steering wheel, twin analog gauges, and two large touchscreen displays for controlling INFINITI’s comprehensive suite of infotainment, connectivity, navigation, and communication capabilities.
