The much-hyped, rally-inspired Civic Type R Prototype created lots of buzz-worthy excitement at its official North American unveiling during the recent SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) show in Las Vegas.
The U.S. debut of the head-turning new Type R Prototype at SEMA comes on the heels of its impressive global introduction at the 2016 Paris Auto Show. Attendees and members of the international automotive press swarmed the radically designed Type R at SEMA to get a closer look at dramatic its over-the-top styling.
Radical Street-Ready Styling
Offering a glimpse at the aggressive design of the much-anticipated 10th-generation Civic Type R, the Type R Prototype shares similar low and wide proportions with the new Civic Hatchback. Clad in a unique highly reflective, fine-grained brushed aluminum effect black vinyl wrap finish customized for the Type R and wearing a visually striking rear wing flanked by “C-style” LED taillights, the Civic Type R’s muscular body styling is designed to optimize aerodynamics for improved handling and fuel efficiency.
Up front, the Type R sports front diamond-mesh air intakes, a string of LED headlights enclosed in smoked lenses, a functional hood scoop, and a signature red Honda “H” logo along with distinctive “Type R” badging. The front bumper gets a red-accented carbon fiber chin spoiler complemented by carbon fiber side skirts.
It wears massive bespoke piano black and red-accented 20-inch sport alloy wheels riding on 245-width high-performance tires. The rear also features a circular red-tipped exhaust flanked by two larger chrome-tipped exhausts similar to the Ferrari 458 Italia and the F40 positioned dead center below the red-accented rear bumper.
The Euro-spec Honda Type R has been tearing up the tracks across the pond for quite some time. In fact, according to Car and Driver, it owns some of the top times for a front-wheel drive car at five of Europe’s top circuits, including the Nürburgring Nordschleife, Silverstone GP, Spa-Francorchamps, Monza, Estoril, and Hungaroring.
