It’s no secret that the mid-size Honda Accord is one of the most popular — and reliable — cars on the road today. It’s no surprise, then, that many fans of this iconic Honda vehicle have been eagerly awaiting the unveiling of the all-new 2018 Accord. The good news is that it’s almost available for sale and lease at Germain Honda of Naples.
Jeff Conrad, senior vice president of Honda’s American operations, calls the 2018 Honda “the most dramatically styled, most sophisticated and fun-to-drive Accord we’ve ever made!” While he might be a little biased, the majority of industry experts seem to agree with his assessment.
The Accord’s All-New Styling Stands Out
Motor Trend Magazine, for example, notes that the 2018 Honda sedan has been “completely redesigned” with a bolder look and longer wheel base. Motor Trend also notes “plenty of new technologies on the options list,” including LED headlights now available with every model, and that Honda has somehow managed to make an already spacious interior even roomier.
Car & Driver Magazine also praises the 2018 Honda Accord’s new styling, calling it “zestier bread and butter” and noting that Honda has “upped its style game” thanks to the Accord’s “longer, lower, wider and sleeker profile.”
It’s obvious that reviewers are liking the style changes, but what does the Accord have under the hood?
Several New Engines
The 2018 Honda Accord will be available with three engines, including two new turbos – the first-ever turbocharged engines for Accord.
The base 1.5-liter engine boasts 192 horsepower and 192 pound-feet of torque, putting it at the top of its class.
Next up is a 2.0-liter turbo with an i-VTEC® valvetrain, producing 252 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque (the highest output on an Accord ever). It’s also married to an available 10-speed automatic; this engine-transmission duo is the first of its kind for a front-wheel-drive car. Did we forget to mention that Honda loves innovation?
In keeping with stick shift enthusiasts’ requests, the Sport trim’s 2.0-liter turbo can be equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission.
As for the third engine choice, how about a 2.0L Atkinson-cycle engine on the Accord Hybrid’s next generation two-motor system? Further improving the hybrid Accord, engineers have placed the new battery pack underneath the rear seat rather than behind it, resulting in more trunk space — the same generous trunk space as the gasoline models, in fact. Kudos to great engineering!
Packed with Safety Features
The engineers at Honda are serious about safety, too, as evidenced by the fact that Honda consistently earns NHTSA 5-star overall ratings and IIHS TSP+ awards. Unsurprisingly, the new Honda Accord is stepping up to the plate in terms of great safety features, as well.
Honda Sensing comes standard on every 2018 Accord and includes numerous driver assist technologies such as lane departure warning, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control and traffic sign recognition. Also available on certain trim levels are blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, cross-traffic alert, and driver-awareness monitoring systems. Needless to say, the ’18 Accord is expected to earn the usual prestigious accolades.
Interior Comfort and Luxury
Besides its extraordinarily spacious cabin and various accommodations, the 2018 Accord also brings a new soft-touch instrument panel in a three-tier design, as well as a new steering wheel with thumb rests and paddle shifters. Add in the new infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen that retains buttons for volume and tuning (at the behest of many drivers), and you’ve got comfort, convenience and stylish good looks inside and out!
