Being neck and neck in sales with the Civic wasn’t enough for Honda’s CR-V—with the newest 2017 redesign, the CR-V is ready to claim the manufacturer’s top spot. Available in LX, EX, EX-L, and Touring trims, the 2017 Honda CR-V crossover is as refined on the inside as it is bold on the outside, sporting more of what we loved in past models, like space, tech, safety features, and a sophisticated style. With this fifth-generation redesign, it’s quite clear that the CR-V is here to stay, and we couldn’t be happier that it’s now available for sale at Germain Honda of Naples, FL.

The CR-V Ups the Ante in Roominess & Features
The new CR-V is built on a Civic-derivative platform, allowing it to expand slightly inside and out. It’s now over an inch longer and wider than last year’s best-in-class model; these added dimensions have opened up the cabin significantly. Legroom feels abundant in both the front and rear, and cargo volume is up to 39.2 cubic feet.
Still, the interior shines not just because of the added roominess, but rather because of the luscious layout of advanced tech. The angled center stack is fitted with a standard 7.0-inch touchscreen with a new Garmin navigation system, as well as an upgraded driver information screen that pops with color—basically, it’s the command center that sets the bar for command centers. The controls are placed perfectly and include sections for dual-zone climate, USB ports, and electronic braking. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integrate well with the audio system and its voice-activated feature.
Head up the dash a bit, and you’ll find a soft-touch instrument cluster and thin A-pillar, making for better outward visibility along the sides. Turn your head toward the center console, and you’ll also see three-position storage and have access to the rear dual-USB ports.
Some passive features are also fitted into the 2017 CR-V, like Honda Sensing™, the automaker’s suite of safety tech. The CR-V EX model and higher trims are equipped with standard Collision Mitigation Braking, Road Departure Mitigation, Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow, Lane Keep Assist. Also offered in all models are systems like Driver Attention Monitor, Automatic High-Beam Headlights, Rear Cross Traffic Monitor, and Blind Spot Information. These additions, as well as its next-gen chassis, have helped the CR-V garner top safety ratings from the NHTSA and IIHS.
An Upgrade to the CR-V’s Bones
New in the 2017 CR-V is the model’s first turbocharged engine—a 1.5L four-cylinder—that produces 190 horsepower and a max torque of 179 lb. ft. It gives the SUV an equal amount of pep when paired with either the manual transmission or automatic CVT, and comes in at an EPA-estimated 26 city/32 highway mpg. Ride quality and handling are also impeccable thanks in large part to the CRV’s new platform.
From the outside, the CR-V has that same look and feel as we’re all accustomed to, but there’s a bit more character. The front-end flares out (not obnoxiously, mind you) and gives the LED headlamps and chrome Active Shutter Grille something to latch on to. The hood is also a tad longer, which organically flows up and to the back, where the hands-free tailgate awaits with it is the welcoming party comprised of chrome dual exhausts, split LED taillights, and a sporty aerodynamic spoiler.
