The Honda CR-V has always been a popular, solid choice in the compact SUV category. While it would be tempting to coast along on its past success, Honda has changed the game and completely redesigned the CR-V for 2017. If you haven’t checked out Honda’s quintessential crossover in a while, 2017 is the year to do it—and Honda of Beavercreek is the dealership to help.
The updated 2017 Honda CR-V is built on a new platform and offers a turbocharged engine for the first time. In addition, it’s bigger inside, allowing you to carry people in greater comfort and more cargo than ever before. Overall, you’ll find superior style, space, and ample amounts of technology in the new 2017 CR-V.
All these upgrades explain why the latest Honda CR-V has already won a bunch of awards, including:
- #1 Compact SUV – US News & World Report
- #1 Compact SUV and one of the 10Best Trucks and SUVs for 2017 – Car and Driver
- Drivers’ Choice Award: Best Small Utility – Motorweek
- Top Safety Pick + – Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS)
2017 Honda CR-V Interior Perks
Inside, the new 2017 CR-V offers a familiar layout, but Honda has elevated the level of detail and the quality of the finish. Upgraded materials throughout improve driver and passenger comfort. (And critics were especially happy to see a much-needed dedicated volume knob added to the infotainment system.)
Overall, the interior of the CR-V is more spacious than its competitors, especially in the rear seat where there’s plenty of room for two adults to sit comfortably. Cargo room behind the rear seat is now 39 cubic feet—2 more than in the previous version and far above all other SUVs in this class. The rear seat in the CR-V splits 60/40, with a one-motion dive-down design so that the seat can be raised or lowered in a single motion.
If you need even more room, fold the rear seats flat (via handy levers set into the cargo-area walls) for 76 cubic feet, and configure the adjustable load floor to create a flat surface with storage beneath.
Up front, the redesigned center console offers improved cupholders and more storage. CR-V EX trim levels and above feature an additional USB in the center console as well as a pair of USB ports for rear passengers.
New CR-V Offers Surprises Under the Hood
You’ll find the most dramatic upgrade to the CR-V under the hood. For the first time, Honda includes a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine as standard issue in EX, EX-L, and Touring trims. This powerful engine makes 190 horsepower and 179 lb-ft of torque, making it a pleasure to drive while powering you through traffic.
When it comes to fuel efficiency, the CR-V rises above all its compact SUV competitors with an EPA-rated 27 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. This impressive performance means CR-V tops its peers by an unusually large margin, with a whopping five mpg better in both measures than the equivalent AWD versions of the Ford Escape and Toyota RAV4.
2017 Honda SUV Tops in Safety
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) calls the CR-V a “Top Safety Pick,” and the EX, EX-L, and Touring trim levels get an added “+” thanks to their standard safety technologies. In the IIHS’ front crash prevention test, the 2017 CR-V was able to avoid 12- and 25-mph collisions, earning it the highest score of “Superior.”
The EX, EX-L, and Touring trim levels come standard with a range of active safety and driver assistance features, including:
- Rearview camera with multiple views (including top view and wide view options)
- Forward collision warning
- Automatic emergency braking
- Adaptive cruise control
- Road departure mitigation
- Lane keeping assist
- Driver Attentiveness Monitoring
- Foot-activated liftgate for easier access to rear cargo area
A safe SUV with incredible fuel efficiency and style? Yes, please.
