Honda unveiled the long-awaited all-new 2017 Civic Type R at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this month. The Civic Type R has many anticipated high-quality features including a high performance 2.0-liter turbocharged powertrain and i-VTEC in-line 4-cylinder engine with a peak 306 horsepower. This will be the most powerful, quickest, fastest and most agile Civic ever. Here is what we know so far:
It is set to make its U.S. debut at the New York International Auto Show on April 12, 2017. The Civic Type R is the first ever Type R-badged Honda to be sold in America. Jeff Conrad, senior vice president and general manager of the Honda Division, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. is excited to see the Type R make its way over to the U.S.
“The fastest, most powerful Honda ever sold in America, the Type R caps off the incredible success story of our 10th generation Civic lineup. We’re happy to inform our U.S. enthusiasts that the long wait for the forbidden fruit of Honda Type R performance is nearly over!”
Drivers can enjoy the major chassis and suspension upgrades that make for a track-ready performance. The Civic Type-R comes complete with a new Dual-Axis front suspension setup with aluminum lower arms and steering knuckles, which improves at-the-limit cornering and reduces torque steer, as well as an adaptive dual-pinion electric power steering system with variable gear ratio. The Civic Type-R also features heavily bolstered sports seats (as pictured above) and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Additionally, drivers have access to a 7-inch display audio touchscreen interface equipped with Honda Navigation system, Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ compatibility and more.
We are excited to finally have the Civic Type-R in the United States. To learn more about the Civic Type-R features and capabilities, click here.

Earlier this month, Honda announced the creation of its Marine Science Foundation, a brand new establishment that seeks to “help restore marine ecosystems and facilitate climate change resilience.” The foundation will support various science-based programs that also seek to improve and preserve coastal areas for future generations.
The venture began in 2015 when Honda began studying the oceanic and aquatic impacts of a rapidly changing climate, such as water pollution and overfishing. While conducting research, company representatives made an effort to meet and speak with many different marine science and management experts to get a vast understanding of what was happening and how Honda could best contribute to make things better. After realizing that Honda’s involvement could be beneficial, the Honda Marine Science Foundation was founded a year later.
“As a company dedicated to sustainability, we are proud to launch the Honda Marine Science Foundation and focus on coastal environmental awareness,” said Steven Center, Honda Marine Science Foundation chairman. “After learning about the challenges and opportunities presented to us by a range of oceanic and atmospheric experts, Honda determined the foundation would foster meaningful cross-sector collaboration to help restore our marine ecosystems.”
The first effort on the list is a partnership with the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB) Bren School of Environmental Science and Management for the Southern California Native Oyster Restoration Project. During this project the Honda Marine Science Foundation and UCSB hope to inform the public about the benefits of restoring native oysters and stabilization of shorelines, specifically on the Southern California coast.
“Collaborating with the Honda Marine Science Foundation will expand our research efforts and help educate people about the positive impact native oyster restoration will have on the Southern California coast,” said Hunter Lenihan, professor at UCSB Bren School of Environmental Science & Management and Honda Marine Science Foundation board member.
This is just the beginning for the foundation. With a board of directors comprised of experts from the marine sciences field there will be plenty of projects that support the mission of the foundation. For more information and updates on the Honda Marine Science Foundation, click here.
