Overview of the 2018 Mazda CX-3

The 2018 Mazda CX-3 is Mazda’s latest addition to the exciting CX-3 SUV series. The 2017 model ranked first on U.S. News & World Report’s subcompact SUV list, and the 2018 CX-3 looks set to make some lasting impressions on the market yet again. Here’s what you need to know about this new crossover to entice you into our Salem Mazda dealership for a test drive.

What’s New?

Automated low-speed emergency braking with Mazda’s unique Smart City Brake Support

The revolutionary Smart City Brake Support system was optional to customers in 2017 and available only for the Grand Touring model. For 2018, Mazda has made the technology available for all three trims (Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring). Notably, the Smart City feature permits autonomous deceleration and braking at speeds of up to 19 mph, making those highways of Salem and Roanoke your high-speed playground.

New additions to the Touring & Grand Touring CX-3

For the 2018 Touring model, Mazda has replaced the standard 16-inch wheels with 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels (and 215/50R18 all-season tires). One of the most aesthetic changes in the 2018 CX-3 comes in the form of striking, black and red leatherette and Lux Suede upholstery, which replaces the 2017 cloth seats.

Those thoughtful engineers have also added heated power side mirrors with integrated turn signals, one-zone automatic climate control, rain-sensing windshield wipers, an advanced keyless entry system, a state-of-the-art Blind Spot Monitoring System, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

The Rear Cross Traffic Alert is especially handy, as it warns the driver when other cars are approaching from either rear side of the vehicle. The 2018 Mazda CX-3 driver can rest assured that there’ll be little likelihood of an accident as they back out of a parking space.

Meanwhile, the Grand Touring now comes with a power sliding-glass moonroof that conveniently opens with a single touch. This 2018 model also has self-activating LED headlights, taillights, and fog lights.

The previous model year’s i-Activsense Safety Package has been replaced with the Premium package. Now, every proud owner of a 2018 Mazda CX-3 can enjoy previous i-Activsense features such as automatic cruise control, lane departure warning, and high-speed adaptive emergency braking, plus Premium features such as power lumbar support, a heated steering wheel, driver’s seat memory settings, and Traffic Sign Recognition capabilities.

The valuable addition of the Traffic Sign Recognition system is unsurpassed in its usefulness to Mazda owners. You can expect to see warnings for speed limits, no-entries, and/or stop signs displayed on the Active Driving dashboard. So, whether you’re distracted by thoughts of a business presentation or worries about a sick child, the 2018 Mazda CX-3 has you covered. You won’t miss important road signs as you journey to your intended destination.

SKYACTIV Vehicle Dynamics with G-Vectoring Control System

Mazda was the first car manufacturer to utilize the SKYACTIV body ultra-high-tensile-strength steel in its vehicles.

The new SKYACTIV vehicle dynamics makes driving the CX-3 a satisfying, seamless experience; 6-speed automatic shifts contribute to smooth, steady acceleration. SKYACTIV maximizes cornering capabilities by transferring loads to the front axle and reducing engine torque with steering and throttle control.

Engineers at Mazda designed the G-Vectoring Control System to embody the spirit of the Japanese philosophy of Jinba Ittai, or the ideal of “horse and rider as one entity.” When the driver and vehicle advance as one force, dynamic movement becomes a pleasure.

Kodo-inspired design with new body color

For the 2018 model year, Mazda’s design team used a brilliant, vivid finish to produce a sensual Soul Red Crystal color. The lustrous, highly reflective paint is a product of Mazda’s innovative Takuminuri painting technology. For decades, the company’s design masters have cherished color as the epitome of form, and it’s quite evident when you set your sights on the all-new CX-3. The aesthetic philosophy of Kodo, or “soul of motion,” is encapsulated in this striking red tint, which transforms the 2018 CX-3 Mazda into a machine of substance and vitality.

Other Mazda CX-3 Additions

Mazda engineers have added thicker, sound-deadening materials, stronger door seals, sound-mitigation mats, and more durable auto glass to the Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring trims. As a 2018 Mazda CX-3 owner, you can also expect to see improved suspension bushings, newly modified dampers and engine mounts, and durable front-lower control arms (the upper and lower control arms are crucial to the car’s suspension system). It’s quite a heavenly ride.
