The 2018 Jaguar F-TYPE is Luxury on Wheels

Dubbed a “brute from hell’ and an “F-TYPE R on steroids,” the 2018 F-TYPE SVR has taken experts to a land of powered horses and feature-filled cabins. It’s conceivably Jaguar’s most powerful creation since its unveiling at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show; the SVR Coupe runs on a twin vortex supercharged 575 hp V-8 engine and generates 516 lb-ft of torque to take you from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds. A top speed of 200 mpg is just the cherry on top.

But that’s just one trim of the extraordinary 2018 Jaguar F-TYPE. In a luxury car market dominated by names like Mercedes-Benz and BMW, this F-TYPE and all its iterations are setting an example. Get ready for the ride of your life by checking out this new seriously muscular supercar.

What’s New For 2018

Two new trims: The R-Dynamic and 400 Sport One-Year Limited Edition.

The 2018 R-Dynamic and 400 Sport Edition trims join the R and SVR in 2018. Both come in Coupe and Convertible styles, with Rear Wheel Drive and All Wheel Drive options.

Packed to the hood lever, the R-Dynamic has a 3.0L supercharged V6 engine that generates 380 hp and 339 lb-ft of torque. It can take you from 0-60 mph in as little as 4.8 seconds and combines with either the six-speed manual or eight-speed Quickshift automatic transmission.

As implied by its name, the Jaguar F-TYPE 400 Sport puts out 400 hp and generates 339 lb-ft of torque. Its unique 3.0-liter Supercharged V6 engine makes this car an enviable addition to any Jaguar collection. The 400 Sport also comes with exclusive Dark Satin Grey 20″ alloy wheels and sleek leather Performance seats. It’s available in three limited edition colors: Indus Silver, Yulong White, and Santorini Black. All look as exquisite as you’d imagine.

A new base engine: The 2.0L turbo-four 300 PS Ingenium line of supercharged V6 or V8 engines.

This rugged engine makes the base 2018 F-TYPE model a phenomenal choice for discriminating Jaguar enthusiasts who aren’t ready to splurge on the range-topping SVR superstar. It’s paired with Jaguar’s robust 8-speed Quickshift transmission, puts out 296 hp, and generates 295 lb-ft of torque. The turbo-four revs up from to 60 mph in a respectable 5.4 secs and achieves a maximum speed of 155 mph—more than enough to tackle those Roanoke streets.

The new 300 PS turbo four is 16% more fuel-efficient than the 340 PS V6 engine, too. It generates just 163g/km of carbon emissions, and at 150 PS per-liter, its power output is higher than any engine in the F-TYPE range.

ReRun: Developed in collaboration with GoPro, it’s the first world-class automotive app technology of its kind.

ReRun lets you overlay telemetry data (speed, lateral G-forces, throttle position) from your car onto GoPro videos. For best results, pair ReRun with GoPro HERO4 (or newer) to capture your drive in crisp 1080p 60fps HD video.

Best Features of the New F-TYPE

Sure, there’s a whole lot to love about the 2018 Jaguar F-TYPE, and here are our favorites:

  • Adaptive Electronic Active Differential and Intelligent Driveline Dynamics System – Delivers optimum torque on any terrain.
  • Optional Carbon Ceramic Matrix Braking – The 6-piston front and 4-piston rear brake calipers are exclusive to Jaguar.
  • A new driver-selectable Titanium Active Sports Exhaust feature – Jaguar has outfitted all manual F‑TYPE 400 SPORT, R, and SVR models with a button that allows Active Bypass Valves to roar and release exhaust gases in dramatic fury.
  • Touch-Pro Infotainment System – Jaguar’s most advanced multimedia system.

An Award-Winning F-TYPE

The F-TYPE has won nearly 160 global awards for its unrivaled performance and driver-focused technology.

Although the F-TYPE has yet to be crash-tested and currently has no NHTSA or IIHS ratings, its impressive safety features inspire confidence in the new 2018 series.

How The 2018 Jaguar F-TYPE Fares Against the Competition

The F-TYPE SVR beats the Mercedes-AMG GT S in sheer power, besting the latter’s 515 hp and 494 lb-ft torque by a respectable margin.

It’s also more powerful than the Porsche 911 Carrera and Cabriolet models. You’ll see some serious competition when the F-TYPE is pitted against the Porsche 911 Turbo, but even in that close contest, it’s clear that the F-TYPE is classed in the exclusive league of 200-mph super-cars.
