2018 Ram 1500

Who it’s for: Convenient inside and out, it’s the ideal truck for anyone from frequent tailgaters to trip-takers to handymen. Basically, no matter why you need a truck bed, you’ll do no better than the one attached to the 2018 Ram 1500.

What it’s got: The 2018 Ram 1500 truck is available in 2WD or 4WD, regular, crew, or quad cabs, and an astonishing nine trims, starting with the base Tradesman® and ending with the range-topping Limited.

The Ram 1500 Tradesman is equipped with a 3.6L V6 that churns out 305 horsepower and offers 269 lb-ft of torque. It is lawfully wed to a beastly, class-exclusive 8-speed transmission (Torqueflight®), allowing the truck to tow over 10,000 pounds.

As a crew cab, this Ram 1500 truck offers 125 cubic feet of interior space and bed lengths of either 5’ 7” or 6’ 4”. A regular cab 1500 is a one-row truck that has an extended 8-foot bed, which is perfect for frequent haul-around-town trips. What’s especially great about the 1500 is its durable, spray-in bedliner (standard). Other standard features in the base Ram 1500 include additional storage compartments behind the rear seat, 40/20/40 split bench (if applicable), AUX power, three cup holders, USB ports, a rearview camera, 4-pin trailer tow, and 17-inch wheels.

Move up to the Limited trim, and you’ll spend a good deal of time wondering how you got so lucky. Available in crew cab molds only, the Ram 1500 Limited shows off its standard 20-inch polished wheels, all-season tires, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, bed lighting, and chrome accents. Under the hood is a 5.7L HEMI® V8 that powers through the hub-bub thanks to its 396-horsepower output and 410 lb-ft of torque.

Inside the upgraded 1500 Limited, you’ll find heated and ventilated bucket seats, dual-zone A/C, foldable floor storage, Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto capabilities, SiriusXM®, an 8.4-inch touchscreen, Uconnect® navigation, upgraded 9-speaker sound system, and a heated steering wheel. Also standard on the Limited model are features such as keyless entry, a ParkSense® parking assistance system, remote start, and high-grade tow hooks.

The Ram 1500 is also the only half-ton truck to offer an available diesel engine option (3.0L EcoDiesel V6 that makes 240 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque), which also returns a best-in-class 29 mpg on the highway.

Favorite feature: A unique cargo-view camera is handy, but you should definitely have the lockable RamBox® Cargo Management System installed in your truck—it’s perhaps one of the best add-on cargo storage solutions on the market. The experts at our Roanoke truck dealer will gladly order your Ram 1500 with this or any other part, no problem.

2018 Ram 2500

Who it’s for: The Ram 2500 is perfect for those of us who need heavy-duty power just about every weekend, whether that’s to tow around Jet Skis and ATVs or to finish big DIY home remodeling jobs.

What it’s got: The new Ram 2500 comes in seven trims, with the Tradesman and Limited bookending the series.

The base Tradesman 2500 is available in regular or crew cabs and comes with a 5.7L HEMI V8 with VVT that makes 383 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. It tows a max of just under 14,000 pounds and includes features similar to those in the base 1500.

At the top of the lineup is the Ram 2500 Limited, which is equipped with a hearty 6.4L HEMI V8. Ram’s legendary power is on full display with this beefcake power plant; it pumps out 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque, allowing the truck to tow a best-in-class 16,320 pounds when fully equipped. Heated high-back leather seats, leather grab bars, 20-inch satin-carbon wheels, stylish fender flares, and Keyless Enter ‘n Go™ are all standard.

Also optional across all Ram 2500 trims is a 6.7L I6 turbo-diesel, which ups the maximum towing capacity to nearly 18,000 pounds thanks to its 370 horsepower and an astonishing 800 lb-ft of torque.

Favorite feature: It’s hard not to label the spectacular 6.7L turbo-diesel as a favorite—with it, you’ll minimize checking dip sticks thanks to its 15,000-mile recommended oil change interval—but the ParkView® Rear Back Up Camera might be a game changer. It offers a crisp, pitch-perfect view behind the truck, allowing you to park or attach a trailer without hassles.

2018 Ram 3500

Who it’s for: A tow/haul mode select system makes the Ram 3500 a classic pickup for the day-in, day-out laborer. With the capability of towing 31,000-plus lbs., it’s essential for everything from roofing to commercial construction to landscaping. If you’re a hard worker, you’ll find no better companion than this.

What it’s got: For 2018, six trims are offered with the “Ram 3500” nameplate, and it all begins with the Tradesman.

The base 3500 Tradesman, as a regular or crew cab, comes with the Ram 2500’s 5.7L HEMI V8, but can be upgraded to either the 6.4L HEMI (also on the 2500) or 6.7L I6 Turbo-Diesel. The turbo-diesel option is about as good as it gets; when paired with the optional AISIN 6-speed transmission, this I6 offers 385 horsepower and 930 lb-ft of torque, which is by far the best in its class. What’s best, a Ram 3500 equipped with this monstrous engine can tow over 31,000 pounds!

One feature not available in the smaller 1500 Ram truck is the option to upgrade to a “mega cab,” which offers substantially more interior room. While not an option on the 3500 Tradesman, the mega cab layout is a choice for all other trims, including the range-topper Limited. Leather bucket seats, luxurious door trims, a high-quality instrument cluster, and a wood-wrapped steering wheel are also standard on the Ram 3500 Limited model.

Favorite feature: Although all Ram trucks are designed to be as durable as any other pickup on the market, it’s the Ram 3500 that takes the cake. A 50,000-PSI steel frame is the heart and soul of Ram’s high-end truck, and an unmatchable 5-year/100,000-mile diesel powertrain warranty offers some additional peace of mind. Pad the 2018 Ram 3500 with the Snow Chief Package, and you’ll even be able to plow your Roanoke or Rocky Mount neighborhood streets when January weather rolls around.
