The NASCAR season is winding down. There are only a few short weeks left before a new champion is crowned—and it all starts just south of our Roanoke dealership. To help you prepare for the weekend of rip-roaring action, let us answer some frequently asked questions about the First Data 500 race.
What’s the big deal?
Did you need an excuse to watch a NASCAR race? If so, then know that the First Data 500 is the first of eight Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Playoff rounds. The first driver to see the checkered flag at Martinsville Speedway may very well end up taking home the championship trophy when the Cup Series concludes in mid-November. The stakes have never been higher for some of these drivers.
Where is it?
Martinsville Speedway (350 Speedway Rd in Ridgeway, VA) will host this NASCAR race. That’s just an hour drive south from our Roanoke car dealership.
When is it?
The First Data 500 will take place on Sunday, October 29th, at 3:00 PM. The weekend holds even more fun. The preceding Friday (Oct 27) will kick off the NASCAR event with Practice Day. On Saturday, the Texas Roadhouse 200 will be held.
How much do First Data 500 tickets cost?
Tickets for the First Data 500 can be purchased individually or in bundles.
- Regular tickets – $46+
- Family Four Pack tickets – $150
General parking is free. Buy tickets here.
Who’s going to win the race?
We’ll never tell. (Kyle Busch is probably the odds-on favorite.)
Can I tailgate or camp before the race?
Camping is available! General Admission campsites cost $125 for the entire weekend. It is recommended that you park an RV when you arrive to reserve your spot. Tent sites are available, as well, though there is no in-field parking for light-duty vehicles.
Are there Martinsville campgrounds nearby?
If you’d rather tow a trailer or fifth-wheeler with your Chevy Silverado, you may want to venture out to any of our local campgrounds. To stay nearby, grab a site at the Indian Heritage RV Park in Martinsville. If you don’t mind seeing the beautiful sights, set up a tent at the Blue Ridge Campground or Smith Mountain Campground.
Or simply head out to a secluded area and pop a Long Box Sportz® Camping Tent right in the back of your Silverado. Our Roanoke Chevy dealers can order and install this Chevy accessory for you.
What trouble can I get into while I’m in Martinsville, VA?
We’re sure you’ll find something fun to do around town.
Head a bit northwest and take a hike on Blue Ridge Parkway. October is the ideal time to bask in the beauty of the natural gorges, waterfalls, and wildlife.
Stay in Martinsville and take a tour of the Virginia Museum of Natural History. Exhibits like “Dinosaurs: Reign of the Giants” and “Ice Age” should keep the kids busy, and you won’t be able to pry your eyes off the “Discovery Reef.”
If you’re staying in our neighborhood (Roanoke), you won’t want to miss taking a trip to Center in the Square, an educational HQ with aquariums, a butterfly garden, museums, and many other fun activities.
Why can’t I be a NASCAR driver?
Multiple reasons, though none of them are due to you lacking the drive to drive. Racing is not a hobby you pick up when you’re bored; it takes years of dedication and commitment.
